New Grant received from Idaho Department of Water Resources and update on existing grant from Natural Resources Conservation Service
This summer Farmers’ Co-Operative Ditch Company (FCDC) received a water sustainability matching grant from Idaho Department of Water Resources. Tom Johnston, board member said, “The board is always looking for opportunities to update our delivery system and provide timely irrigation water to our shareholders. The board continues to do their part in water quality and quantity on behalf of the shareholders. We want to thank the State Legislator’s for making the funds available and Director Gary Spackman of Idaho Department Water Resources for managing the water sustainability grant program.”
The head gates in our irrigation system are over 100 years old and are in very poor condition. With this grant the staff will be removing the older head gates and replacing them with three computerized head gates and two manual head gates. By updating our delivery system, the manager will be able to raise or lower the head gates day or night depending on the elevation of the water in the River and shareholder usage.
The board’s sediment removal pond grant provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is slowly moving ahead. We had a few setbacks this summer. When our fill material samples were tested for clay content, they were below the recommended amount. The board will be selecting a local contractor to start work in the near future. As construction begins a media event is being planned. Hopefully several shareholders will be able to attend.
